The FleetMotus Magna II device usually operates on a web based platform, but for organisations requiring direct control over the system a local server may be a more appropriate option. In either case the system can monitor a fleet or individual vehicle to streamline their deployment and reduce accidental damage as well as abuse.

Unlike the Nexu range of devices that collects data via the OBDII port the FleetMotus Magna II has a hard wired connection either through 4 x analogue inputs or 4 x digital inputs or a CAN Bus terminal as well as monitoring signals from sensing devices when required, therefore giving the Magna II  increased functionality over the Nexu devices. Where the data is then presented in a variety reports regarding vehicle usage and how the driver of a vehicle is behaving either as an individual or in relation to others.

  • The unit has 8 inputs (4 x analogue and 4 x digital), one of which is normally used to monitor the vehicle battery and another the ignition, with the rest allowing the continuous monitoring of emergency, utility and auxiliary equipment

Smart Crash Detection (IDR Data)

  • Smart Crash Detection, or Incident Data Recorder (IDR) Data, is captured by monitoring accelerometer measurements at a higher frequency of 25Hz than that sampled at 1Hz for standard event date recording
  • In conjunction with this a 'Crash Detection' profile is defined by setting-up:
  • An Acceleration Threshold set as g-force in millig's (mG), where 1G = 9.807 metres per second squared and event duration set in milliseconds (msec)
  • If an incident occurs and the vehicle device detects an acceleration value higher than the pre-set threshold and within the pre-set time-period, the unit will generate a 'Crash Event'. As such the threshold and duration values can be set to capture incident events of interest. Where detection could range from a slight tapping on the device (Threshold=100mG, Duration=1ms) through to a severe accident type impact (Threshold=4000mG, Duration=5ms)
  • The capture window of the Smart Crash Detection feature is sufficient to store acceleration data every 5 seconds before and 5 seconds after an incident (crash/accident) occurs at a resolution 25Hz (a sampling rate of 40 milliseconds), including when the device is in deep-sleep mode to ensure events that occur when a vehicle is not in use or parked-up are not missed
  • This data is held in the vehicle devices storage 'buffer' over a rolling 10 second period, but is only transferred to the system server when an incident is detected, clearing it out to make it available to record future events. Also, each record will be time stamped in millisecond increments.
